The food ad I picked was for a Chinese food buffet. It has Bruce Lee, one of the most iconic people ever to come out of Asia. It is a simple ad, black background, a seal of sorts with Chinese characters and Bruce Lee in a fighting pose. One thing is different though, He has a potbelly! What this ad promises is that you are going to be full when you leave. The other message that would be taken is you are really going to like to eat here. Pretty simple message. The fact that this buffet uses somebody so recognizable is very smart, because it’s open to everybody. Even though it uses Bruce Lee and he has been gone for a while now, most people will recognize him. It portrays Lee with a belly. As an incredible martial arts master, and incredible athlete in peak condition the add shows he liked the food a little too much. If he did then the dinner will like it too.
The audience it can potentially reach is huge. All types of Americans, film buffs, martial arts and movie fans, and people who like Chinese food buffets. The age demographic can be maximized as well. Older people who have seen Lee’s work and younger people who may not be very familiar with Lee, but know he is practicing martial arts. It’s not a secret that UFC mixed martial arts is very popular right now. It can be seen on TV, the movie screen, and in print. When you add all of these elements together the simple add with the man about to go into action has more thought put into it than it looks like. The final piece to this effective add is Lee himself. Who doesn’t think it’s kind of funny to see a guy with a fresh, new gut?
